TURDs and Taxes

The Bush era Tax cuts expire at the end of this year. Liberals and Conservatives cannot agree on whether to extend the cuts, and if extended, who the cuts would be extended for. I don't see how it can help the economy by raising personal income taxes for any group. Left leaning Democrats are upset the President Obama is open to negotiation for leaving the tax cuts in place for all income classes. They are afraid he might actually become a TURD for the rest of his term. Republicans want to increase tax cuts for every wage class. At a time when the government should be trimming the fat, they want to give the government even less to work with. Come on people, the highest earners already pay 96% of the personal income tax. How is it fair to increase that percentage? At the same time, government programs are already forced to eliminate essential services due to budget concerns. Let's not reduce taxes just for political gain.

TURDs and the Vote

As much as it pains us to do so, we must get out and vote today. In many cases, we are forced to choose the lesser of two evils. In heavily conservative areas, this means we need to support the more liberal candidates. In left controlled areas, we will be voting to the right. It's too bad they don't have a box for "None of the Above". TURD headquarters is different from other party headquarters. There will be no celebrations when a candidate wins. TURDs are only going to celebrate when they see compromise. TURD does not believe pork is compromise. We have seen too many votes "bought" through promised Pork funding for individual states or districts. Let's find a middle ground on every issue. This country was founded on principles of fairness. Let's make things fair, but not cater to the vocal minority in order to appease them. TURD feels that an example is the over simplification of the separation of church and state. Much was made of the debacle last week when a candidate stated during a debate that the constitution never separated church and state. The candidate was blasted in the media, but this was actually true in purpose. The founding fathers did not believe religion should be completely removed from politics. In fact, the founding fathers all believed that religious values were necessary in order to ensure equality. The founding fathers did believe however, that government should not support a specific religion, or push religious ideals on the populace. But let's ask this question. Do you really think our founding fathers would be happy with the recent ruling that forced crosses to be removed that honored fallen highway patrol officers? This is why TURD thinks that this country has fallen into petty political fighting instead of focusing on helping the majority achieve success. Let's all get out and vote today. And remember, Do no harm.

TURD for PROP 19

How do you explain to your children that you support any measure meant to legalize that evil plant known as "Mary Jane"? Though TURDs do not support or encourage drug usage of any kind (this includes alcohol and tobacco), we at TURD headquarters felt compelled to pick a side. TURD members should think for themselves before deciding what their opinion is, however if you take emotion out of the equation, it seems like a no brainer for legalizing the stuff. Here is the TURD argument: Marijuana is already the largest cash crop in the United States. If every farmer in the US converted just 1 acre of production to Marijuana, we would no longer need to subsidize the farmers. (This is a topic for another day.) The farmers would be able to make more money, and for those that decided not to grow marijuana, the decrease in production of other crops would raise the prices of all crops by a small amount thereby decreasing the need for subsidization. Experts on both sides of the issue agree that billions are spent enforcing the marijuana laws currently on the books. This money doesn't include the decrease in consumer spending brought on by locking up otherwise honest, law abiding citizens. Just by legalizing, we cut our national and local spending by huge amounts. For those who think that by legalizing it we are making it more accessible to our children, take a hard look at that elementary schools your children attend. TURD can guarantee that it is much easier to purchase marijuana at school than it is to purchase alcohol. This is because alcohol distribution is controlled. By legalizing, taxing, and controlling the distribution of marijuana, we actually make it less likely that our children will use this at a younger age. (we know that there will still be some sneaky brats who steal from their parents bar/stash. We are not naive - just realistic.) Currently the Democrats in power are too weak to propose legislation to legalize marijuana, and the Republicans are too afraid of the moral consequences. But let's examine the consequences of not doing anything. More innocent people will be killed south of our borders. Republicans claim the violence is not their fault. They blame the users and corrupt politicians south of the border. It is our fault. Without criminalization, the incentive to control the drug trade through violence is removed. There is historical precedence here. Take a look at prohibition. While there were still some moonshiners left, the number who still produced illegal spirits was never very high after prohibition was overturned. The same would be true with marijuana. Democrats are equally as naive. Democrats believe that legalization will foster addiction and create widespread homelessness or laziness. They fear more people will be under the influence while driving. While TURD understands the DUI fear, why don't we just spend some of the money we save on housing these non-violent criminals on traffic enforcement. Sounds like a good idea to TURDs everywhere. Researchers on both sides agree that there would be an initial uptick in usage, but after the first year, it would drop back to nominal levels. There are still no hard studies on physical dependence on marijuana. While it might be possible, the withdrawal symptoms aren't life threatening like alcohol, and as a pain reliever, it is much safer than any prescription drug out there. If everyone would start thinking for themselves instead of being inspired by the "media", TURD believes our country could again be returned to a political superpower. The problem we suffer from today is the same problem that caused the housing and credit mess. We have become accustomed to getting exactly what we want. There is no compromise any more. TURD's suggestion is to let the federal government declassify marijuana and let the states or local governments decide if they are going to allow the sale and distribution. The federal government would get a small portion of the taxes and the rest would go to the local schools to enrich our children. See how easy it is to compromise.

TURD take on Unemployment Benefits

There was on article on MSN this morning that discussed people who are collecting unemployment but not taking jobs because they make more getting unemployment benefits than they would if they took a lower paying job. I am unable to fault those that are trying to provide for themselves and their families, and one of the requirements for collecting unemployment is that the benefits will stop if the individual stops actively searching for employment. This means that they are looking for work, but in most states they aren't required to take a job that pays less than their unemployment benefits. Truly Unhappy Republicans and Democrats believe there is a simple solution to this issue. Are you ready for this amazing idea? How about we just pay the difference? How much money would be saved at the state and federal level? TURD is not quite sure, but considering that most jobs available right now are part time or low wage, it seems that it would save at least 20%. If you have any thoughts please let me know....and once again, sometimes the solution isn't as complicated as the parties in power would have us believe.

The TURD is on!

I have been fascinated with the rise of the tea party and it's impact on the political fabric. While I truly don't believe in everything they stand for, I do understand the panic and frustration that inspired them to voice an opinion. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before the far-left liberals also form a "party". Now remember, this is an opinion and not based on any studies or hard facts.

The tea party was founded by extreme-right conservatives who felt that most republicans were moving to the left too much. I believe the far-left liberals will form a party because they believe that many democrats are becoming too conservative. Now, it might seem that this is a bad thing, and it probably will be in the short term, but I believe it will open the door for a third party. The TURD party, as it will come to be known, will be comprised of all those who think the far-left and extreme-right are crazy. The TURD party will become the party most of us will support. The TURD party will truly become the party of compromise and respect. Patriots and intelligent individuals will flock to the party.

Here is an example of something the TURD party would support.

Health care: - a creation of a health care system that combines the best of the free-market system as well as the idea that "God" wants us to take care of our brothers and sisters. In this scenario, business would receive tax breaks equal to the amount they spend on insurance for employees. There would be a limit on these tax breaks when they are considered to be over-insured. For those who are unemployed but not disabled, they would be entitled to government subsidized insurance as long as they were actively looking for work. For those who are too lazy to work, no insurance for you (but your kids would be covered.) We also need tort reform. If you are using someone else's money to purchase health care, you shouldn't be allowed to sue that same provider for millions. Actual and future damages only, no punitive. This would lower the cost of health care to the point that we could actually fund it. I'm sure there are some flaws in the plan, but the beauty of the TURD party is that these flaws would be addressed and a compromise would be made. Now, here is the most important part of the TURD party. Each and every bill would be on it's own. There would be no pork involved with the TURD party. Please let me know what you think.

Welcome to the TURD blog

Thank you for visiting my new blog. I have started this blog to discuss the disenfranchisement of our country and the political mess our two major parties have caused. I hope this blog can provide food-for-thought for those of us who have a brain and an opinion. This blog will periodically contain updates on my thoughts about partisan politics, the constitution, patriotism, or anything else that comes to me during my daily news reading.
